[edit] Re: Maintain a template of items

You can make use of templates. By putting the info of each item in its own template, you can then use the templates corresponding to the items you want to list. If you need help figuring out templates, feel free to let me know! -User:PanSola(talk/history) 00:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Although this has nothing to do with the topic in general...Hi PanSola!!1! AzureDrake 01:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: parser functions

The Parser functions extension is enabled by default on all Wikia wikis. You can check Special:Version for a list of other extensions that are currently enabled. The only way to batch-upload articles is to put them into a single XML file, then use the Import special page to import the XML. -User:PanSola(talk/history) 05:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Validation

In general it's very messy to do validation, and the easiest way is probably to just rely on users fixing anything that's wrong (such is the nature of a wiki).

In some specific cases, validation can be made easier if the input is expected to correspond to an article (then you can use the fact that links to existing pages are blue, and links to non-existent pages are red). Also, the Semantic Media Wiki extension (which I believe you need to ask a staff to turn it on if you want to use it) has some basic validation mechanisms for values of semantic properties.

[edit] Target List Ready

I finished the list. Well, sort of. I haven't confirmed some information, but all the pins are listed and all targets (where applicable) are accounted for.

How should I send it to you? ElTipejoLoco 07:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I got mIRC up and running and am currently in #wikia, but I don't see you there. Message me when you're online and I'll give you the .xls file. Sadly, saving it as a text file with delimited tabs erases some information that I think might be important to anyone reading the pin list. I'm trying to work on making it so that there are no more comments in the Excel file without losing any info, but it's taking a while. ElTipejoLoco 10:23, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template Item list

Hi,

I have played around a bit with the template for the thread list, to reproduce a pin-list-like behavior: the end result is here. If you like it, we could move all item pages to template pages (and maybe create the new "ghost" item pages).

[edit] Yen symbol (¥)

I was thinking along the lines of a complex #if sequence. Just take the last letter, and if it equals 0-9, then put the ¥. We could probably just use #switch, and that would take care of it. Angel14995 21:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey from Wikia Gaming Team

Hey Mmoroz, just wanted to stop by and let you guys know you are doing a bang up job, and should you need any help from us, don't hesitate in asking me. One thing that your community would find helpful, in terms of drawing attention to the wiki, is spotlighting. There are some guidelines listed here for you guys to follow, and we can start showcasing all your effort on wikia gaming! Let me know if you have any questions. JoePlay (talk) 18:04, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Glad to hear you'll be doing what's necessary for being spotlighted. To answer your questions, for welcoming new users, yes.. just manually add the template to the user's talk page. That goes for registered and unregistered users. You'll want to welcome everyone. About red links for talk pages on recent changes, of course there will be a few (for new users who've just edited in the last 24 hours or less), so don't take that part of the rules TOO literally. And yes, the best way to find new editors is by checking recent changes. We definitely want to spotlight TWEWY soon. In fact, I was told to make a spotlight image ASAP (I'm the person who makes the spotlight images for all Gaming wikis), so keep up the good work and you should see TWEWY in the spotlight rotation maybe as early as next week. JoePlay (talk) 21:30, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the welcome :)

Just thought i'd mention that because you were so welcoming that I signed up. :P (Yeeaaah, I know it's a template, but was a nice gesture anyway. :P) Keep up the good work! ^_^ Bigrat2 11:05, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Shibuya Image

On my current screen, each image goes off the screen entirely, so I was thinking no image covers. If we do use image covers, we should do them small. As for the image of Shibuya, why don't we put that on the Shibuya page? Angel14995 19:13, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Possible new logos

I saw your latest message on my talk page, so I guess you saw the images I just uploaded =) Let me know which one (TWEWY1.png or TWEWY2.png) you prefer, and I'll make it be the wiki logo. Also, I wanted to show you the spotlight image I made for the upcoming rotation (TWEWYspotlight200.jpg). JoePlay (talk) 21:15, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

I saw your last message about possibly using the logo from the game's box art, so I extracted just the text logo and tweaked it in photoshop to try to make it easier to read. Then I uploaded it and added it to the the logo choices. There's so many good potential logos on that page that it might be hard for people to choose, but that's a good "problem" to have. =) JoePlay (talk) 22:52, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
About changing the logo on central wikia, if you mean this, I think the current logo that's displaying there ties in well with the wide logo you guys chose, since they both show that cool looking black logo... but it's your call of course. If you're referring to a different page on central wikia, link me to it. JoePlay (talk) 23:21, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: autowelcome

That script looks like it only runs whenever you actually load the page, so it wouldn't work when the AJAX updates the page. -User:PanSola(talk/history) 08:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome Messages

No problem with using the new code for welcomes. Also, I hope it was OK to just post my proposed logo without asking. Some people would have been offended. --- Fallen Reality 07:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Congrats on 1,000

I noticed that today TWEWY Wiki reached (and passed) 1,000 articles, so I added the wiki to the active wiki list on the RPG Portal of the Gaming Hub, and also made a little news item thing in the Featured Content section, as you can see. Well done! JoePlay (talk) 00:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Webtools

As far as I know, the webtools (which as you can see is still [BETA] so not fully developed) is updated automatically, but it's slow to do so. So the good news is that there's nothing you have to do to 'activate' it, but the bad news is that it may be a while before any info starts displaying. JoePlay (talk) 19:18, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brand logos.

Ahah.. no problem. :] I have every brand, except Pavo Real and Hip Snake (I'll probably be able to get those later.. not sure)

I'll upload the first five (I have to go sleep really soon):

Jupiter of the Monkey: jupiterofthemonkeydu3.png

Lapin Angelique: lapinangeliqueqz6.png

Mus Rattus: musrattusjv8.png

Natural Puppy: naturalpuppyah5.png

Wild Boar: wildboarmg0.png

They weren't edited in anyway, and are the exact same size (the only size availble on the entire game, I think. I'll upload the rest tomorrow. =) Skorch 06:05, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

OH yeah, if you need any scenes from the game in Shiki's week, you can ask me..! (img241.imageshack.us/img241/1184/day4jp0.png)

Those are exactly what I was looking for. If you could get the other 8 for me, that would be wonderful. Tessara 06:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Skorch! Mmoroz 07:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gatito Pin differences.

While I'm asking for the moon, is there a way to get the in-game (lo-res) pictures of Badges 220 (キャット・ブレイン / Brainy Cat) and 227 (まぼろしブレンド / Visionary Blend) from It's a Wonderful World? Those are the only two Gatito I know of that changed for the American release. Tessara 06:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmm.. as far as I know, there are 4 pins that changed in the US release, and they are Pin 276, Pin 277, Pin 278, Pin 279. On this wiki, we have hi-res pics from Japanese game for these pins (see below). The original in-game sprites (low resolution) we have are from the US version.

Image:Pin 276j.png Image:Pin 277j.png Image:Pin 278j.png Image:Pin 279j.png

For pins 220, 227, I thought they did not change from the Japanese version. Mmoroz 07:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
There are differences, but they're a little bit subtle. I wish I already had the pins to illustrate the differences, but the main difference is in the shape of the "cat eyes". In Japan, they're an upside-down cross and an inverted pentagram, while they're both solid-color stars in North America/Europe.
While I can't find screenshots that show the difference, I did find pictures of the Udagawa mural that the badges/pins are based on here at 00:34 for the Japanese version and here at 00:34 for the English version. It would be nice when I'm working on the Japanese Gatito badges evolution chart to use the lo-res Japanese badges. ^_^ Tessara 22:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, a few frustrating hours later, I've managed to rip the badge sprites. Badge 220 is different between the games, Badge 227 is not. I'm guessing that the cat heads on 227 were too small to bother altering whatever the censors objected to. I'll upload a graphic showing the changes with 220, 276, 277, 278, and 279. Probably will put it on the Regional Differences page. Cheers. Tessara 05:26, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pin Template Editing

I'd like to point out that I did not create the bug causing the duplicate entry of uses in the template, and also found out that the template was no the cause. I reverted the changes I made and noted it in the history so that someone with more time knew about the bug and could remedy it.

I had already attempted to recreate the bug in the sandbox, but because it was isolated from whatever was causing the problem and wasn't occurring as it was on the actual page in the Wiki.

Also, did you find out what was causing the problem? I had to go to work so I couldn't investigate further. I'd assume you did, since it's no longer there, just curious as to what it was.

Nimphious 20:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pin evo charts.

Uploaded yet another new template on the discussion page. Not sure if you're keeping track of what's going on there, but so far I've only got one comment about the new idea, and he's not satisfied. (Go figure.)

As you're the admin around here (I think), I'd appreciate your comments as well before throwing yet more work behind something that potentially is a "serious downgrade" to whatever else we already have. Tessara 16:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, let me rephrase the question: do you think that I should switch the pin-blocks from black to white? It will mean another redesign, as I'll have to put outlines around everything that's solid color now, but I'd rather do the re-design up front than after I'm done remaking everything.
I'm doing this mainly to get a second opinion, as just changing it due to the whims of one other person is more trouble than it's worth. And more unspoken opinions are out there. Tessara 20:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I didn't even realize I was making a chart to be printed, so I can't say what software/settings should be used.
I will flip over the black backgrounds to white, though, and change the arrows. I already know the arrows suck, but they aren't really as much of a layout concern as the pin-blocks. After all, the arrows move from diagram to diagram, the pin-blocks don't.
I'm also probably going to have to change the balls and stars, which don't look quite as nifty on a white background as they do on a black one. Will figure that out and post the result. Tessara 21:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Done. Sorry it took so long. Tessara 18:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mobile Flash Noise Dictionary

I've been playing around in flash making this and thought you might like to see it. It's far from finished, but at least you can see where I'm going with it. I'll be adding stuff like noise locations, and possibly some details for the pins.

http://www.nimphious.com/misc/twewydict.swf

Let me know what you think. Nimphious 13:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I replied to you on my page, in case you hadn't told it to watch. Link is still the same, you might have to clear your cache to see the differences though. Also let me know if you think this could go somewhere. I'm going to finish it for my personal use regardless, but if you would like to have it as a feature in the wiki I'll be glad to polish it off and dish out some other resolution versions when it's finished. Nimphious 12:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Two little things..

1. Do you know if you can help make a template similar to Pin_001 but for Noise? There's a template for Items and Pins, but not for Noise. xD

2. Would you be interested in helping me make a Sigma Harmonics wikia? (Just a thought, if you want to, then we can make one, but if you don't, then no worries.) :) Skorch 04:14, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

I think I found a vandal as I was looking at the page for Holy Field. He changed it to say that Holy Field actually makes you regenerate a ton of HP, so it only seems like you're invincible. But this can't be true; any attacks on you pass through... even Panthera just picks up - and throws back down - nothing but thin air. No damage numbers appear, no HP Regen numbers. What he wrote can't be true.

The person in question: StrayFang007

Looking at his contributions, I see that he also "fixed" Pins 027 and 028 by swapping the phrases "spray penetrating bullets" and "fire a fragmenting bullet."

I reverted all three of those edits (actually, I made a full-blown edit on Holy Field because my initial intent before noticing the vandalism was to make it sound more formal). And it seems that this is where it's supposed to be reported (I'm guessing you're the admin), so I'm posting here.74.76.141.171 22:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, we had a problem with a vandal. 193.164.107.130 There he is. The Grim Heaper

[edit] Making templates...

Hey, I'm trying to make a printable little booklet of pin evo charts, noise lists and stuff for when I go away next week without internet access. I'm going to put a little "Where to Find" table for each pin next to the evo chart. I made one by printscreening Pin List A and mucking around in Paint, but it'd be a lot easier to just make my own template. Anyone mind if I do so?

[edit] Querying possible problems?

If we see something which looks wrong but are not sure about, where should we query(/report) it? Should we be using the "Report a problem" script, or make an edit here perhaps?

Because a comment on the page's Discussion could be just as easily overlooked as the problem itself. Silktail 23:15, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

As an example: I feel this addition to Pin List G History, might be considered an advert and probably should be removed. But then maybe I'm being a little harsh and would like a second opinion. (And it might even be an ad that was approved, for as far as I know.)

I have to agree that it's an advertisement, and it probably wasn't approved, since I've seen the same user advertise on the GameFAQs forums. It would probably be best if it was removed. I think that the report button is probably the most effective way, but there's probably nothing wrong with editing questionable content out and waiting for a response. Still, that could just be my opinion on the matter. Ruduen 16:36, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
It's definitely an ad. If it was an ad for a non-profit company making TWEWY pins, I'd suggest to let it stay. But as far as I can tell, this dude is actually making money off that stuff (despite his assurances to the contrary). I'm going to double check with him, but the ad's going away.

[edit] Adminship

Ok, I'm working on something that could become a comuntiy project. Making templates to stick on your user page, so people know your achivemnts, how many posts you got stuff like that. And when will the wiki owner next log in? --80.229.21.152 20:20, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Becoming a Moderator

Hey Mmoroz! I was told by my friend Skorch to come and talk to you about becoming a Moderator. I'm relatively new to Wiki's, but I know and follow all the rules of the site. If you'd kindly tell me how to become a Moderator/Admin, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!Panthera Cantus 22:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Panthera Cantus

[edit] Sorry I was away

[edit] Problem correcting the names of Threads.

I tried to correct the name of Classic Half-boots, but that caused links to a new page with the new name. I started to move the information to the new page, but it hasn't turned out the same. I hoping it's just because the old page is dominating the new info (in the templates?), but I have my doubts. So anyone know what I did wrong, or forgot to do? (I've left it in its current broken state, in case we have to undo everything.) Note: It wasn't the only name I was about to "fix" either. Silktail 06:18, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Well I think found the way I was supposed to do it and tested with the 2nd item I was going to correct. I.e. Moving Retro Dot One-Piece should allow me to rename the page as Retro Dot One-piece, without changing anything else. - That does seem to have worked perfectly, but I'll leave it a day to make sure nothing breaks and needs reverting. (At which time I'll have to request the new Classic Half-boots page for deletion, so I can move/rename the old page.) Silktail 20:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Whoops! I forgot about this (but luckily I had it writen down). Retro Dot One-piece still seems fine, so I corrected the other items that I had spotted and will request deletion/replacement of the Classic Half-boots page. Well as soon as I figure out how you request that! Silktail 01:58, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism [August 20, 2008]

IP Address: 74.55.158.78

The owner of this IP replaced the ENTIRE cache of Text_dump with "Very nice site!" Obviously this change didn't contribute to anything at all. I've gone and undid the change and reverted to the last revision

--DarkLink 05:36, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism [December 10, 2008]

IP: 98.224.223.160

This guy keeps replacing entire pages with "Under Construction." He even states that in his edit summaries! Others keep fixing it pretty quickly, but he's obviously just here to mess around. (I'm assuming that this is where we report it?) Loony bat 11:35, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] status

Sorry, I don't have time to do anything on the wiki these days. But I will periodically check this page, in case there's a major problem.

Also, yes, this is the correct place to leave notes about vandalism, until someone else can take over the admin stuff.

Thank you!

Mmoroz 04:56, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Funny you should mention major problems, because the Semantic MediaWiki seems to be completely broken and I was wondering if I should raise a problem report so that one of the Wikia helpers might try to fix it. (I hadn't the time in the last 3 months to do so yet. Opps!)
Basically data is missing from tables, Property has types are still displaying data as links, and similar problems I believe. However editing pages has fixed some of them, so it may just be a case of refreshing the SMW data or running a "nochange edit" bot. (Thread_List_new is a good example page of these problems.)
But I guess the more important issue here, is whether we should raise Problem Reports for all the minor admin problems (E.g. Candidates_for_deletion), for Wikia Helpers to pick up? Or hold on until we get a new admin to sort them out? Silktail 18:37, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I tried to find another admin a long time ago (the news items is still there I think). I think it's hard. I would suggest trying again...
By all means, ask wikia helpers if they would be nice enough to help out.
With SMW, unfortunately, I don't have the time either. I do notice that numbers are written as +30, which SMW does not understand; its flexibility is very limited :( Some types still need to be added. And yes, changes don't show up until you touch the pages...
Well I think we were more worried about the bits that were working and stopped (which was originally everything), but I image we should be able to add/redo the remaining things afterwards.
In any case I'll raise a Problem Report for the SMW problems. And another for the candidates for deletion. Silktail 18:02, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
