Neku lightning bolt

Lightning Bolt is a negative psych found on four pins, all of which cannot be obtained early in the game without a mingle shop. It is activated by slashing an empty space, but slashing an enemy will work if there are no psych conflicts. Neku will fire a bolt that follows the direction of the slash. This bolt is independent of Neku's location. Lightning Bolt pins are categorized under A class.

Analysis[]

At 50% efficiency, this psych is a non-puck attacker and may replace all negative psychs with lower efficiency. Unfortunately, it is a difficult psych to use to its full potential. Of the four pins, Tin Pin Artist and King Arthur are immediately dismissed as unplayable because they hit an enemy only once per use. Black Jupiter and Excalibur are able to hit an enemy twice per use. However, this ability will be canceled if the player slashes too fast, as is usually the case during a frenetic battle. It is imperative that the player time the slashes carefully in order to make the most out of these pins. Few pins will match their damage output if the player is able to do so.

Tin Pin Artist[]

Tin Pin Artists, which can only be obtained on Week 3, Day 3 through winning a Tin Pin match at the Stride, is the most accessible version of the psych, and the only one obtainable on an initial playthrough. All of the other pins with the pysch are only obtainable as drops from the game's most powerful boss or, in the case of Excalibur, as an evolution of a pin dropped by said boss. This not only restricts access to the more powerful versions of the psych by forcing players to confront the strongest adversary in the game, but also ensures that these stronger versions are only obtainable after completing the game at least once. This leaves Tin Pin Artist as the version to use in an initial playthrough, where it can be highly effective against the game's later bosses.

Black Jupiter (set) vs. Excalibur[]

Excalibur under SOS and Resonance deals slightly more damage than Black Jupiter, but Black Jupiter under Cosmic SOS runs away with the crown. See Lightning Arrester for a damage graph. In the Remix versions, be aware that Black Jupiter's bolts do not cross the entire screen when drawn horizontally; other Lightning Bolt pins do not suffer this issue. Furthermore, King Arthur and by extension Excalibur are far easier to obtain than Black Jupiter, which requires beating the game's superboss on Ultimate. This leaves Excalibur as the best alternative for when Black Jupiter has not been collected or for when the Black Planet set isn't complete. (It should be noted though that Black Jupiter is generally considered the hardest pin to obtain in the set, though some of the others can be hard to find for first time players without a guide.)

Excalibur vs. Drake[]

Drake has higher efficiency, but with careful slash timing and Resonance, Excalibur is able to end up dealing more damage in a shorter amount of time. Therefore, Excalibur is worthy of a place in many time attacking decks.
