The World Ends With You

Chump Noise are the most abundant type of Noise. They show up as a red noise symbol when scanned. They can be found floating around the Underground or created by Reapers to erase players. Barring special circumstances, the employment of Chump Noise is the only allowed way for Reapers to erase players.

Gameplay[]

Chump Noise symbols can be found by scanning starting on Week 1, Day 2 after hearing the conditions for clearing the second wall. From that point on they can be found almost anywhere at almost anytime, though they may not appear during certain parts of the story and/or in certain areas. Chump Noise battles can be chained with both Boss Noise and Taboo Noise, but not with Negative Noise or Pig Noise. In the DS version of the game, the phone signal icon acts as an indicator as to the prevalence of Chump Noise in the area, with more Noise resulting in a lower signal indicator.

Story[]

Most Chump Noise are effectively wild Noise roaming free. They will not attack players with a Pact in most situations. Though they can be created by Reapers, they also appear to be capable of spawning naturally and are implied to be capable of multiplying by consuming Soul. They are also said to prefer dark places and shadows, and indeed are often more common in places with ample shade.

Noise that Harrier Reapers actively use to attack players are portrayed as appearing from Chump Noise symbols and in some scenes are depicted as emerging through the symbols. Some wall Reapers will demand that Neku and his partner erase a certain number of Chump Noise symbols of a specific shape and size while others may demand that he either erase a certain total number or to chain a certain amount. Most insist on doing so in the specific area they are found, though a couple are more lenient.
